There is no statute in Iowa that says that if you are hit by a semi you're entitled to a million dollars or even alternatively, that if you suffer some type of injury such as a broken leg you're entitled to $500,000.00. The factors that are most important are things like the severity of the injury, the extent of the treatment that's required, the level of the treatment so if you're having multiple surgeries as opposed to a few physical therapy appointments those make the claim more valuable. The period of recovery, whether or not the injuries are permanent, the effect upon you, and your daily life, the effect on your family, and the medical bills.
The most important thing that initially is making sure you have an expert who can identify all those claims because if they are not brought, you will not be compensated.
