Domestic Abuse Assault NFG

Boone County, Iowa. A jury recently returned a NFG (Not F’in Guilty) verdict for one of Matt Lindholm’s clients following a two day jury trial. The Perry Mason moment in this trial occurred when the alleged victim (client’s ex-wife) was caught lying to the jury. She had previously testified that she had not been sexting other men because she never had the SnapChat app however police video footage showed her admitting to deleting the app a week prior to making the complaint. Assault Charges Dismissed

Polk County, Iowa- A female GRL Law client was charged with assault and obstructing emergency communication for allegedly shoving a male acquaintance and throwing his phone into some bushes so he could not dial 911. After further review and consideration by the County Attorney’s office, the charges were dismissed at the State’s expense.

Child Endangerment and Domestic Assault Causing Injury Charges amended to Disorderly Conduct

Boone County, Iowa-A GRL Law client was facing domestic assault and child endangerment charges after the client’s ex-girlfriend made allegations that he had assaulted her tried to push her down a flight of stairs while she was holding the child. As the matter approached trial, the State’s attorney was convinced by Mr. Gangestad to dismiss the charges of child endangerment and domestic assault and amend them to a disorderly conduct charge, a simple misdemeanor. The client was able to retain his firearms and hunting rights as a result.

Pretrial Motion to Suppress results in dismissed charges, felony conviction avoided

Cerro Gordo County, Iowa- GRL Law attorney Grant Gangestad filed a motion to suppress evidence based upon various violations of the client’s statutory and constitutional rights. After successful depositions and negotiation with the prosecutor, several charges, including possession of controlled substance and assault with a deadly weapon charges, were dismissed. The client received a deferred judgment on the remaining charges, avoiding a felony conviction and prison time.
