If you go another route on OWI representation, you are making a mistake!

I was embarrassed and dejected when I walked into the GRL office with my OWI charge, but after meeting Bobby and McKayla, I knew I was in good hands. I was skeptical about the opportunity of a reduced sentence, but through Bobby’s diligence, the charge was reduced to a traffic violation! All of this without stepping foot in court, mailing anything or stressing that I missed a deadline. McKayla’s level of detail and follow-through is something to aspire to. They are a great team and you want them on your side. Thank you Bobby & McKayla!!! Put their number in […]

Can You Carry a Firearm in Iowa? You might be suprised.

While recent changes to Iowa’s gun laws have been trumpeted and described at times as Constitutional Carry, this is simply not the case.  A closer look into the newly enacted legislation exposes a number of new traps that could catch the unaware citizen. Under Iowa’s new gun laws, a person is prohibited from CARRYING (having a weapon on or about the individual’s person or within immediate reach in a vehicle) a dangerous weapon (which include firearms) under the following circumstances: While possessing a controlled substance. While committing another serious misdemeanor offense, or a greater offense. If addicted to the use […]

Responsive, clear communication, excellent representation.

Bobby and the team provided excellent representation. Communication was clear. Responses to my questions were prompt–whether via phone or email. From on-boarding through case closed, I felt I was in good hands and that I had an advocate with both the courts and the government/DOT issues. Between Bobby and McKayla, I knew what I needed to do and what to expect. I would definitely recommend Bobby, McKayla (his assistant) and the team at GRL based on my experience. Throughout the experience (which was long–due to COVID and the courts) I was always confident that I had excellent counsel and representation. […]

OWI Reduced – Money Well Spent!

Bob is an outstanding OWI attorney and McKayla is always on top of every detail and always kept me informed. Bob took over my case from a court appointed attorney that was assigned to my case that I felt was not going to do justice in representing me. From the first time I talked with Bob, I felt confident that he would fight hard for me. He is very knowledgeable and always answered every question I had promptly and thoroughly. He was able to find some mistakes made by the prosecution that would benefit me in trying my case. He […]

GRL LAW Called in to Take Over for Trial – Case Quickly Resolved

Montezuma, Poweshiek County, Iowa.  A young man’s family was not comfortable with their son’s current attorney’s willingness to take the operating while intoxicated charge to trial.  They wanted a second opinion and called GRL Law.  GRL Law agreed to take the case over, refused to move the trial date and prepared the case for trial.  During preparation for trial GRL Law discovered that the prosecution had improperly subpoenaed the client’s medical records following the accident.  A motion to dismiss was filed and the day before trial was set to start the prosecution agreed to amend the operating while intoxicated charge […]

Perseverance Pays Off

Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa.  GRL Law took over the defense of a young woman accused of operating while intoxicated in Iowa City back in April of 2020, right as the COVID-19 pandemic was ramping up.  Dissatisfied with the willingness of her prior attorney to take the case to trial, GRL Law was called in to take over.  Pretrial motions were filed and decided by the court and the case was confirmed for trial on multiple occasions only to have trial repeatedly continued.  Finally, with courts opening back up, the prosecutor agreed to resolve the case with the simple misdemeanor […]

Iowa Supreme Court Severely Limits Rights of People Under Arrest for OWI

The Iowa Supreme Court took an unfortunate significant step backwards as it relates to the rights of individuals arrested, but not yet formally charged with Operating While Intoxicated, in Iowa.  In State v. Sewell, a case argued by GRL Law, Justice Mansfield, delivered the opinion of the court which held a person arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, who has been asked to submit to a breath test, but has not yet been formally charged with the offense, does NOT have the right to a privileged phone call with an attorney. Justice Appel issued a stern dissent, arguing that the request […]

WELL-WORTH THE MONEY!!

I never thought I’d be so pleased to leave a review for a lawyer working on an OWI case…but here we are. Bob is extremely knowledgeable, keeps you informed at every step, and is a pleasure to work with. He has a long checklist of items that he goes over to see if there were any mistakes made by the police to help with your case. In my particular case, he went over video footage and found out that the police did not give me sufficient time to make an informed decision about whether or not to give a breathalyzer […]
