NOT GUILTY – Serious Injury by Vehicle

State v. Beckel – Defendant was charged with a Class D Felony, Serious Injury by Vehicle – Operating While Intoxicated.  The charge carried with it a mandatory 5 year prison sentence if the defendant was convicted.  The State refused to offer a reasonable plea agreement that did not result in prison so the case proceeded to jury trial.  The jury found the defendant NOT GUILTY of the felony Serious Injury by Vehicle but found her guilty of misdemeanor Operating While Intoxicated.  She was sentenced to the mandatory minimum sentence of a weekend drinking drivers program, fine, and one year of probation.
